Just wondering if anyone has a bag or 2 of smelts they could sell me? I didn’t get out for any smelts in the spring, thanks!

It may be easier just to go catch you’re own, Cisco or smelts.i use kinda a drop shot method instead of whatever lure can be switched out with any fly just nothing with wings you may have to trim them off. Like perch fishing need a light or sensitive rod. I use spring bobber.

A lot of people forget that Smelt season is march 1 - may 31:).

I don’t have the time with work and I’m wanting to head to Jessie lake when I’m back from my next rotation figured it would be easier to grab a bag off someone if they had extra

It's illegal to sell bait unless you have a bait dealer's license.

The correct wording would be a donation of smelts in exchange for (x). ;)

The correct wording would be the super store

I have seen bags of frozen smelts there from time to time.

Dnr had or still has herring , not super sized ones either they were slightly bigger than smelts and work well.

I have no clue what I was going this spring but i wasn’t catching smelts… so I got none either.

I know at one time the Super Store had them in the frozen section, at least that is what they looked like.

What are the restrictions for using smelt for bait in our zone? My understanding is they aren't allowed everywhere.

There is some exceptions to that…

Dead Rainbow Smelt may be used as bait or possessed for use as bait - see waterbody exceptions

  • Jessie Lake
  • Lake Helen
  • Lake Nipigon
  • Polly Lake
