Thanks to some dumbass people we will have no access to the boat launch at the end of Taylor Street. Something the residents enjoyed for many years but is no more.

For the longest time we have left the gates open at Kakabeka Falls GS so the public could walk those roads with pets, for personal use, and to even use a boat launch near the intake dam. As your likely aware, these access roads (including the boat launch) are considered private property as they are part of OPG’s property at the station. Over the last few years, we have been dealing with a variety of trespassing issues of people driving snowmachines and ATV on top of the aqueduct (very dangerous), parking in front of the water pump stations (blocking access to fire trucks), and more recently vandalism/theft/damage to our property. We have tried putting up signs to warn the public of these issues and prevent further misuse. Unfortunately, our efforts have not been successful.

In the last two weeks, we have had someone enter our property, on two different occasions, during the night and vandalize, damage, and steal equipment. Given the recent events and escalation of concerns, OPG has decided to define these areas a ‘No Trespassing” moving forward. In other words, the gates at both access roads will be locked for the foreseeable future. The public will not have access to these private property areas for personal use.

This decision was not made lightly, but the safety of the public and our assets are our top priority and the preventative steps taken, enable OPG to manage these concerns in a measured approach.

They put that ad on everywhere in the province this time of year, I don't think it has anything to do with the situation at Kakabeka
