Steelhead fishing

Recommended Posts

Guest canuck

Although I have not gotten the steelhead bug...I want to give it a try...I am wondering what is required to start....I don't want a $200 rod or reel but something that might be a cross over to other fishing that I will do.

I would like to hear what is good to start with....any help/suggestions (appropriate line weight etc....) would be appreciated.

Thanks

Shane

This is low budget compared to what most guys on this board use.

Walmart or Cdn tire 9' fly rod, spincast reel the smaller the better cause you don`t wanna carry alot.

I use 10 lb test.

Green and orange coloured yarn works best fading the brightness as the season goes along works best.

I also buy bottled salmon eggs already in pouches at Cdn Tire, wash out the bottle with warm water then cold water few times then keep as cold as possible before use.

Just couple cheap ways you can start.Remember the limit size and see you there
