Guest marz78 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 I've recently purchased a 308. and was talking to a fellow worker with the same gun. He was having trouble with sighting it in. A friend told him to change his mounts(weaver). He'd centre it then the first 3 or 4 shot the grouping would be close then after that the next one wouldn't be close then the next would be off the chart. He was told the mounts couldn't take the recoil, he also notice that they mount had become loose.. I havent fired the rifle yet hopefully this week, but has anyone else had this trouble as I have weaver mounts on mine also... Also if you have had the trouble does D&R carry different brands as you can't order over the border from CABELAS. thanks Marz
Guest TerryK Report post Posted October 6, 2008 My old 30.06 has Weaver mounts and I never had a problem with them. But the are pretty old so maybe the older ones were better?
Guest marz78 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 From what his freind said it's just the 308, he transfered the mounts to different big rifles and never had a problem. My 270 has weaver mounts and i never had a problem which i have noticed.

Guest deerhunting101 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Go with the weaver mounts. DNR put them on for me last year and I've never had a problem since. What kind of rounds is your friend shooting? He should be putting a couple of rounds through the barrel before trying to sight it in. Rifles shoot different with a cold barrel so you should warm it up prior to sighting in. Once it gets too hot take a break and let her cool down. I bring my 22cal and do some shooting with this for a while and then go back to the high power. I shoot a Remington 700 Buckmaster limited edition in a 30-06 cal.
