fishman1 164 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 well it all came together last night. we sat in my double tree stand and just before dark, a small buck came in. he was a little hesitant on shooting the rifle this year. he became gunshy from shooting the shotgun at age 5. he has since been very good. well, i went to see adrian at d-r and bought some managed recoil 30-06 shells. these have 50 percent less recoil with 125 grain bullets. they have the same ballistics as 180 grains. the bullet passed completely thru at 70 yards. thru the front leg and the heart. the deer only went 30 yards. the look on his face was priceless. this was the highlite of my hunting career being there with him to share this moment. the kid was pumped. as far as his age, well we wont even go there. i guess you are never too young to start hunting and i was right beside him for safety.
