Guest doddzy Report post Posted January 14, 2009 In my crime stoppers map the Penassen lakes are circled red. In the legend it states that any lake circled in red is a fish sanctuary. As far as I know you can't fish these lakes. So the answer to the pevious topic is not correct in saying you can fish them during the normal season only. So I'm asking can we fish the Penassen lakes? Thanks in advance.
Guest MNR Report post Posted January 14, 2009 The Penassen lakes are located close to both Highway 527 and Thunder Bay and have the potential for over-exploitation. When the Crimestoppers Explorer Maps were printed, the lakes were noted as fish sanctuary to protect the fish in the lakes. Since printing, the brook trout season in Zone 6 has been changed. Now there is no winter season for natural brook trout in that Zone. Since the brook trout in the Penassen lakes are a natural brook trout population, one must follow the regular season for brook trout in Zone 6. This means that you can fish in the Penassen lakes. The brook trout season is open from the 4th Saturday in April until Labour Day. The next edition of the Crimestopper Maps is currently being checked for accuracy before it is printed. The maps will be available in stores for the May long weekend and will reflect the change in status for Penassen lakes. In addition, the new maps will be at a more convenient scale (1:100,000 or 1 cm = 1 km) and we are currently debating whether to include topographic features in addition to all the other valuable information.
