Gone8to1248 158 Report post Posted October 16, 2010 #1: Good pair of boots--running shoes would be shot in a week! #2: Military mess kit-- can eat out of it,boil water, cook in it and it's shiney for signaling #3: Survival Knife with a minimum of 10" blade also has compass in handle #4: Magnesium fire starter (doesn't have to worry about getting wet) #5: Topo Maps #6: and as Levi said a second pair of socks! (prevents jungle rot after about 4 days) 400 miles into bush = a 475 mile walk out detouring around lakes and other obsticles and averaging 8 miles a day meens roughly 60 days of walking! Food source would be living off the land such as grubs, grouse, varmints, rabbits, berries and other vegitation and lots of water. first rabbit becomes dinner and rawhide to tie knife to tree limb which now becomes spear for killing bigger game. Macgiver 101! See you all out there in the woods! LOL

Guest Limiter Report post Posted October 18, 2010 I only need two. A gun and a bullet! I agree. To go overland from here to the Sault in the bush with no supplies and 6 items would be a task few would manage. I hazard a guess that a lot of us older folks would not even make it walking on the side of the trans Canada at this time of the year without a ride.
