Waterfowlers Dream Day

Recommended Posts

AB

I had the good fortune to hunt an area that the birds wanted into this week.

In 45 minutes I was able to limit out for the day on ducks and geese. That's pretty cool, but not uncommon when you hit it right.

What made it a dream day was recovering a bird band, and then another, and another, and then another one! 4 bands on one day. That's more then I've collected in 20 yrs of waterfowling in Canada.

2 were from Canada geese - a female, born in 2011 and banded near Winisk, Ontario, and a male banded as a young immature bird in 2007 near Minnehaha, Indiana.

The other two bands came off Mallards, a male and a female - I'm still waiting to get the banding data on them. So I'm guessing they were likely banded this year, maybe locally.

Good Luck!

That's mint. I have been craving duck since the opener but haven't had a chance to make it back out.
