pastor norm 125 Report post Posted November 25, 2011 Okay... Today I went to the public launch and walked onto the ice. The lake looks completely frozen over with about 3" of solid ice. But that's just at the public launch. Can't vouch for other places, especially because Whitefishhas springs in places.I will be trying to fish on the 29th -- I'm gonna walk out,of course! I figure it will have 4" by then.I'll tell you how I do. If we get a ton of snow before then that will spoil the icefishing with slush. But that meanssnowmobiling time so I'm all torn inside. Oh ye of little faith.
pastor norm 125 Report post Posted November 28, 2011 Think I'm gonna give it a few more days for two reasons..1. The heavy snow is going to sag the thin ice and make it pool up with water UNLESS we're careful not to start punching holes and letting the water up. I don't want to be the cause of that but I bet others will do it anyways.2. I don't have a midweek fishing partner. I'm not going to venture out unless I got a chum who is willing to toss me a rope.If you did fish, how thick was the ice where you were?
Lyle Reiner 174 Report post Posted November 28, 2011 Norm if you can wait till friday ill gladly bring a 2x4 and toss ya a rope Quote Prostaff For Lowrance Canada

rodman 4 Report post Posted November 29, 2011 Had to do some work at MNR fire base at Rinker lake last week, figured time to start putting auger in work truck just in case.Hee-hee.Four inches of solid clear ice where there was no snow anyway's.Small lake a little up north enough I guess. Was suprised to see frozen already actually, considering it was 12 degrees that day!Not one to be too risky or early on the ice so early but the job was done and I let my partner go first!Ha-HA!Going to be investigating some smaller lakes this year a little earlier I think, instaed of waiting for Lac.May the ice be with you! Lyle Reiner 174 Report post Posted November 29, 2011 well Norm, I have a quad with 50 feet of synthetic line attatched to a warn winch lol, we could always make an extension hahaRodman, I fished Rinker a few times last winter and got skunked every time, Did some research into it and it turns out that lake suffers in the winter from a low 02 content. So its not really worth fishing in the winter. Quote Prostaff For Lowrance Canada

Plus, during ice out you can see some really cool ice formations and currents. I have yet to find a better site for sat imagery.
WalleyeWayne 137 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 I flew by Whitefish on my flight to Calgary yesterday and its frozen & snow covered completely. Lac had minimal snow near shorelines, but nothing on the main body of the lake. It actually looked like much of it was open, but we were flying much too high by then to tell for sure. I fly home tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what condition Lac is in. We should come across it at lower elevation to get a better look. I'm thinking Whitefish has to be a go for this weekend with at least 3-4" of ice. If my wife let's me out this weekend, I will be there.
