Learning to hunt

Recommended Posts

Guest Rick H

I have been hunting most of my adult life, recently, my 20 year old son (who does'nt hunt) has asked me if it would be OK to accompany me while deer hunting. Being a frugal kind of individual, he is curious to see if he would enjoy it before going to the expense and time of getting his licence (something that I have been telling him to do for afew years now). I am familiar with the rule of not being able to stalk or lie in wait for game without a licence. Could he still get an "apprentice" licence or does he have to go the full monty and take the Hunter Education Course?

Thanks

Ontario's Hunter Apprenticeship Safety Program allows Ontario residents aged 12-16 to safely develop their hunting skills while under the direct and immediate supervision of a qualified mentor. The program provides for practical training for future hunters. Apprentices may choose to qualify for hunting with all types of firearms or with archery only. Apprentices must successfully complete the Ontario Hunter Safety Course to obtain their apprenticeship card.

Any wildlife taken by the apprentice forms part of the bag limit of the licenced adult mentoring the apprentice.
