Thefishleclair 175 Report post Posted June 1, 2012 Pyrite and possible Chalcopyrite, Hard to tell. As for gold they may have some trace amounts. Would be good to learn how to stake claims and see if the area has been nabbed yet. Or sniff around and see if ya can dig up some more rocks lookin like that. Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted June 1, 2012 Hard to tell.As Leclair said it could be those minerals but gold is usually found among those minerals. You could bring it in to be assayed but then you have to divulge where you got it from and if it's claimed already....... I don't know what happens then....Roger Quote R.T.R. Respect the resource!
brookiebuster 117 Report post Posted June 3, 2012 Thanks for the info.I might eventually get it looked at.I looked up pyrite and chalcopyrite.Im sure its not pyrite(it has a different structure then the "gold" that I found.) It may be chalcopyrite, but im not sure. The chalcopyrite has a more brassy colour than the rock I found.I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow. ghart 55 Report post Posted June 3, 2012 pyrite with some chalcopyrite (copper) - provides that little green tingeGold will appear almost yellow and will look nothing like fools gold after youve seen it. Gold will also never tarnish so if it has a tarnish on it (unless just washed on from adjoining minerals) then not gold.Gold also doesnt have a defined crystal structure usually - so if you can make out individual crystals of pyrite/chalco.... not goldGold is soft, when poked with a sharp nail - it will just deform, not flake/fractureGold will intergrow amongst pyrite/chalcopyrite formin small buttry yellow specks inside the pyrite/chalco crystal structure.pyrite/chalcopyrite are indicator minerals in the rock and are a couple of the thinges geologists look for - small arsenopyrite (silver in colour) is a primary indicator in beardmore-geraldton Quote In the Age of Information, Ignorance is a Choice.
