Trapping minnows and leeches

Recommended Posts

Guest woggy165

I understand you need a licence to trap bait fish and leeches to sell but I was wondering on the rights to the trapping lines and how it works with trapping on private property with a well populated creek going through it and nobody has access other than the property owner. Are the trap lines designated like they are for trap lines for fur bearing animals? Thanks in advance..

Bait Harvest Areas (BHA) are similar in design, procedure for allocation as fur trap lines. If within a BHA there is private property containing enclosed ponds, only the BHA licence

holder, with landowner permission, or the owner of the private property can harvest bait. A

private pond owner cannot lease or allow the pond to be licensed to anyone other than the

BHA licence holder.

Private property owners with natural ponds that are completely surrounded by private land

where there is no ingress or egress of minnows from public or other private waters wishing to

harvest and sell bait must purchase a commercial bait licence to harvest bait and pay the

BHA fee for the pond.
