Guest Bucktail Report post Posted July 25, 2013 Recently, I was on another forum where two users were discussing daily limits for Cottontail rabbits in southern Ontario. (a) The first user claimed the daily limit was applied on a per WMU basis and as such it would be legal to take 6 Cottontails in one WMU then move to another WMU and take an additional 6 Cottontails in one day. ( The second user claimed it was not on a per WMU basis and as such the hunter would not be allowed to take an additional 6 Cottontails in the second WMU in one day. Which interpretation of the regulation is correct?
Guest MNR Report post Posted July 25, 2013 A person cannot kill or capture in one day or possess at any time, more cottontail than the daily bag limit. In Wildlife Management Units 1-50, 53-59 that daily bag limit is 6. It doesn’t mean that you can have a bag limit of 6 from each wildlife management unit. Even if you hunt with a falconry bird and a rifle on the same day, your bag/possession limit is still 6.Reference; Ontario Regulation 665/98, Section 25. Ontario Regulation 670; Table 9 and 9.
