Guest MNR Report post Posted October 25, 2013 A Non-resident of Ontario must employ a guide while hunting for either deer or moose in the territorial district of rainy river (which includes Wildlife Management Units 7b,9b,10,11a and 12b). The guide must be licenced by the MNR and the non resident must be able to provide proof that he/she is being guided at the time the matter comes under consideration. A guide is “a person who leads or shows the way”. Employing a local guide ensures that trespassing does not occur. There are no hard and fast rules about service levels the guide has to provide to his/her client but they must be in attendance at some point during the hunt. There must be one guide for every two non resident hunters. Guide licences are available from MNR offices for a fee of $7.50. There are no prerequisites other than Canadian citizenship to obtaining a guide licence. If the guide is actively in search of moose with the hunter ie hunting, the guide will also needs a valid moose hunting licence.
