Gone8to1248 158 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 Down in my area we call them Red-horse Suckers, we find them in our creeks and streams. Good Northern and Musky bait on a harness. We also have a White Sucker which is good for smoking and pickling in the spring time while the water is still cool.
Guest FreshwaterFisherman Report post Posted May 25, 2014 I second red horse. Couldn't keep them off a sucker spawn pattern last night.
RickS 19 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 While that is not the easiest picture to use for identification, I would make this to be a white sucker. The scales are too small for a redhorse.
flybum 95 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 While that is not the easiest picture to use for identification, I would make this to be a white sucker. The scales are too small for a redhorse. It had VERY small scales and the slime it produced was insane. Water couldn't get the slime off, I had to wipe my hands off on the trees and the rocks. It did have a red strip running laterally down both sides tho.

AB 98 Report post Posted May 26, 2014 Guys, What those things mean is that it's time to hang up your waders for two weeks, catch up on the "honey do" list or chase walleyes and pike. It's natures way of saying there are other important things in your life besides fishing! It's like "CONTROL + ALT + DEL", shut down for bit and reboot. iceman

mad scientist 140 Report post Posted May 26, 2014 Definitely longnose sucker. We have two common redhorse species around here - river redhorse and silver redhorse. Both have bigger, coarser scales and more red in the fins. Quote I'm going out to fish. - John 21:
