Retriever 15 Report post Posted October 31, 2014 Yesterday was the first day I noticed scrapes on my daily walk. A quarter mile of trail on my property had 6 scrapes. Interesting that 4 scrapes were directly under balsam fir branches hanging about 5 feet above the ground. The other 2 scrapes were on trail crossing junctions. Light tickling/rattling of the horns has always worked the best for me. This morning it brought in a young buck. I live in the north end of the city and have seen deer activity pick up a lot over the last week.
brookiebuster 117 Report post Posted November 1, 2014 Was sitting in a cut today and watched 2 does walk out at 200 yards. Waited for a buck to follow but with no luck. If I had a doe tag I would have been a happy hunter. The hunt continues.. Quote "Whack em' and stack em',kill em' and grill em'" Ted Nugent
Monks 164 Report post Posted November 2, 2014 Yup them are young bucks sparring. It ain't on yet. Like going to a bar...always the young guys who go hard early and pass out before the party begins. Another week and the big boys will be cruising around.

Mr. Canoehead 69 Report post Posted November 4, 2014 I was hunting with a wolf a couple weeks ago. Broad dayloght he was watching the same cut as me. He would look over ar me once in a whole then back to watching the treeline. Not scared of me at all!Switched spots to discover a treestand where I like to sit.So I switched to my favorite spot I been saving for the rut...I get there to find a family of 6 and their dogs having a campfire right by where I sit! Apparently they do it regulalrly.I was horrified. And confused why they wanna have a campfire at the back of a clearcut. I hate hunting public land lol.
