ghart 55 Report post Posted March 21, 2016 Stocked fish are free to roam, a connected stream/creek or river would present food/shelter opportunities so yes they would spread out. Most stocked lakes are chosen however for limited "spreading" opportunities I Believe, a lot I know of are pretty much land locked. 1 Quote In the Age of Information, Ignorance is a Choice. Generally this is correct, but it depends on the purpose of the stocking and the species in question. Lakes that appear under "additional fishing opportunities" in the fishing regs are usually stocked based on the premise of Put-Grow-Take...the fish are stocked with the expressed intention that they grow to a harvestable size and then are caught, with little or no expectation that they'll reproduce. However, if fish are stocked to rehabilitate a population, or to introduce a new species that will eventually become self sustaining (think salmon in the Great Lakes), their ability to spread out to make the best use of available habitat and resources is desirable.
