skunkedagain 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2017 Good morning! Does anyone have any information about the boat launch by sawmill bay? We are heading there on May 25, 2017 and looking to camp there and portage into Greenwater! How has the early fishing been on Greenwater for lake trout? I love that lake and area and cannot wait to get there! Also, has anyone been to Teardrop for Specks? Or are there any other lakes around there for Specks? Thank you Nicole
borealjourneys 4 Report post Posted May 9, 2017 Do you mean right on Sawmill Bay, or the one on the northwest shore of upper pretty much directly west of the mouth of Greenwater Creek? I don't know about the former, but the latter has reasonable space to turn around if there's nobody parked there already. There is a big group of folks from Wisconsin who camp there that weekend every year and if they are already in there when you get there, there might not be much room to turn a trailer, but they are good folks and usually help to get you turned around. I'm just in my truck with a canoe on top, so it's a bit easier than having a boat trailer. If you're the first in there this season, there is a culvert that has a mud hole/washout on one side that might need to be addressed on the way in. Bring a chainsaw so you can cut and pack some logs in there and it'll be passable. There are nice campsites right on Greenwater. If you based right on Greenwater, you could portage over to Erne or the other speck lakes to the west of the East Bay for Thursday or Friday before lakers open on the Saturday. You'll find your lakers on opening, but I've found it a little slower right at opening than a little later in the season.
