Bobber Down 921 Report post Posted December 19, 2018 TORONTO — The provincial government has rescinded scheduled increases in fishing licence fees for residents of Ontario. The announcement was made Monday by Natural Resources and Forestry Minister John Yakabuski. In addition to cancelling a planned 2 per cent hike, Yakabuski said the government is removing the $2.00 service fee attached to license purchases. The province is also adding two new licence-free fishing events for residents of Canada in 2019: the weekends of Mother's Day and Father's Day. Currently, Canadian residents may fish in Ontario without buying a licence during the weekend preceding and including Family Day in February, and for a week starting around the end of June. Earlier this year, the government announced it was amending fishing regulations to allow veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members to enjoy free recreational fishing.
