riverrunner 14 Report post Posted January 2, 2019 Was at kama today. Ice conditions are great, solid 8" of black ice with minimal snow/slush . There was some crazy booms that shook the whole ice pack when it warmed up! Fishing was slow. Lots of smelts around but very few whitefish.
scandiman 114 Report post Posted January 3, 2019 I was there today also. 6-8" of ice depending on where you go (close to the landing). Exercise caution if moving toward the point or the river. The ice will still be thin there. I concur, the fishing was really slow.
2112 174 Report post Posted January 4, 2019 What depth? Last year I was hitting around 30 ft deep straight out.
2112 174 Report post Posted January 6, 2019 Wow! What a day on Kama Bay. Caught 1 herring (probably smallest ive ever caught) and the biggest smelt ive ever caught. So crappy fishing, but it was beautiful out. Ice is alot closer to the 6" line than 8". I measured my holes all between 5" and 6" with my tape measure. People had snow machines out and im not sure if they new how borderline the ice was, so be careful! Fished at the 40-50 ft depth, smelt mania.
scandiman 114 Report post Posted January 6, 2019 i measured 8" of solid black ice where I was fishing today (anywhere from 30-60 FOW). There was actually more ice the further out I went. Fishing was far less than stellar. Not sure what is happening at kama the past 3-4 winters, but the fishing has definitely dropped off in my experience. Henda 2 Report post Posted January 26, 2019 Does anyone know if the Kama rd has been plowed or is passable by vehicle? thanks
2112 174 Report post Posted January 26, 2019 1 hour ago, Henda said: Does anyone know if the Kama rd has been plowed or is passable by vehicle? thanks It has access to the rail road so its plowed very quickly. You can park on either side of the tracks, I asked the CN people and they said park wherever, just not on the tracks. If you get into some whities please let us know, its been slow last 2 times and its a long drive for slow fishin'!

scandiman 114 Report post Posted January 13, 2020 The fishing at Kama has dropped off significantly in the past few seasons. Not sure whats going on with the decline, specifically whitefish, but I can't imagine it's from angling pressure.
