poz 35 Report post Posted October 22, 2020 Hi All. Just wondering if any lakes in the area have started freezing over. Possibly north up 527 or black sturgeon rd. Itching to get out for some early ice brookies. Looked back and we made it out Nov 8th last year. Next week looks like cold nights. Anyone with updates ? Foozer 194 Report post Posted October 23, 2020 Drove Dorion Cutoff from 527 side for some birds. Some ponds had a little ice but the bigger lakes next to nothing. Anders was wide open. poz 35 Report post Posted October 23, 2020 Was out Shebandowan way today. Small lakes frozen (Mathe and Little Kabaigon ). With the cold nights the next few days most of the smaller lakes should harden up 👍🏼

poz 35 Report post Posted October 24, 2020 That’s a cool chart. I used a formula I found on the internet last year to try to predict ice formation. It worked pretty well. After ice forms initially. The formula is in f degrees. For each day it is high temp + low temp /2 (an approximation of average temp) then take the difference between this number and freezing point 32. Then that number /15. This will approximate “ of ice formed that day. ex high 32 low 20 f for the day. 32+ 20/2 = 26. 32 -26= 6 6/15 = .45 “ of ice formed that day. wind current etc can change things but it seems pretty accurate. the tough part is knowing when the ice has formed.
