weldon1275 53 Report post Posted January 15, 2022 20 ft out facing Mary's ice ridge way out past island, stayed close first step on her this year.
kbrest 151 Report post Posted January 16, 2022 Good to see finally. I drove out last week and it just didnt look good. Was thinking this was going to be one of those years we wont get to fish out there at all. Remember a few years ago when there was about 4-5ft of ice everywhere, i was driving my 3/4 tonne truck out there on the ice road that was plowed to the island. Amazing how different it is year to year.
Tomperch 14 Report post Posted January 21, 2022 Is there enough ice to snowmobile a ways out yet?
Anthony Coccimiglio 6 Report post Posted January 21, 2022 Was out there today and saw someone snowmobiling inside the ridge. Did not see anyone venture out passed the ridge. Quite a bit of snow on the ice, with some slush pockets in tight to shore as well.

I may be mistaken, but on L.Winnebago in Minnesota during the Winter you are required to have full-flotation gear for your quad or snow machine. mikep 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2022 Stay cautious beyond the first ridge. There was a small ridge that had formed and iced over. It almost looks like nothing worth considering. But we chipped through with only a few swings of the end of a scoop. Only an inch or two thick. Straight out from shore, it was about in-line with the far tip of Marys Island. Figured it nust have opened recently, even last night, and froze back over. 8” of ice on both sides.

AddieH 6 Report post Posted January 29, 2022 Went out today to first drop off (56 fow). First ridge looks bad but was nice and tight. Fished on 12” of ice. Second ridge is wayyy out there in laker land and some people ventured out there as well. Clearly enough to walk on anyway

Fishog 215 Report post Posted January 29, 2022 When I used to fish lake trout there and closer to caribou island the fish we caught were so fatty you had to cook them outside. Burnt up a couple of BBQ's doing so just from the fat dripping and catching fire. Are the ones now better or still the same?

I still end up keeping a few Lubers by mistake. Still taste good just gotta cut the fat off before cooking. you can get a decent idea by the colors of the fish and if ya keep em around the 3 -4 pound range yer odds are better. Less fatty ones have a bit of a silver shine to em where the lubers will have pale gray / yellowish look to em ive found. 1 Quote Grumpas' Baits Check it out on FB

MorningDew 1 Report post Posted February 2, 2022 Should be good to go! As usual, just use caution around the ridges. I always bring a spud bar to check the ice when crossing ridges.
