Slushy lake conditions?

Recommended Posts

Zackcorbin1401

Black bays ice conditions were great on Saturday there was no slush.

Sunday on a small trout lake up 527 and was some slush around, nothing bad but probably just because the amount of holes I drilled.

Very little slush on small brookie lakes where I was. Just around shore mostly.

Dirty Sanchenz

Fished Tease and a couple of smaller lakes on the dorion cutoff, no issues with slush, looks like from previous sled tracks it has frozen up, couple of very small pockets nothing to worry about.

Bobber Down

This does NOT look like fun.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - what a ride!!!

Been there done that. Scary thing is you dont think about is the cold water constantly on your legs. blood pumping. Cools down quick and cools the test if the body down.

I stripped off all my wet cloths and cranked the heat on the truck for the ride home.  Took 2 days and a few hot showers to feel warm again.

The pain in my feet took another 2 days to go away.

Early 90’s back when I had my 250 elan ss. We buried 7 sleds in slush on posh. First sled on lake was 91 340 Indy sport. The operator hit slush and turned to head back when machine bogged down. One by one as machines hit the lake seen light and as usual tried to catch up one by one we all went down. Was all day ordeal getting them out. I could only imagine with machines of today engineered awkwardness. Hope you got a winch. Stay dry my friends

I really love my Skidoo Summit with 154 inch track with 2.5 inch paddles. I don't need a sleigh as my gear fits in a tote on the tunnel. It's light and great for breaking trail and dealing with slush. Overheating on a slow bush trail in spring is a bit of a problem but scratchers provide enough cooling snow in most hardpacked conditions. An external add-on radiator with fan would be a great option.

I wish all my gear could fit on my sled… it does as long as I leave the pop up at home. Went with the voyageur 650 1.6x146” track… rack and all it’s a beauty fishing sled, nice thing is it does not overheat I’ve gone endless km with no snow/ no scratchers and barley hit 125° on the sled

Has anyone been out on greenwater this year yet?
I was out on some lake trout lakes in the Atikokan area yesterday… about 4” of fluffy stuff on top of the ice… no slush or water sitting on 10” of ice…It was actually hard to get traction pulling my otter sled with the snow machine.
