One Island Lakeh

Recommended Posts

LU_Tunafish

Hi all,

I've fished One Island lake a few times in the winter, sometimes in 8-10 FOW and other times 20 FOW, and never caught anything. I suspect I might just be fishing the wrong time of day, or maybe the wrong spot - does anyone have any helpful ice fishing advice for the lake?

Thanks!

Considering the number of camps and homes on the lake for many many years I suspect it might be fished pretty hard. All those lakes around there used to get stocked years ago but I don't think they stock them any more. We had a camp on Surprise Lake and caught small walleye in the bays. The more people moved out there to live the harder it was to catch a fish. Probably the same problem at One Island

Me folks built a couple of dachas out there.  Fished the lake for 35 years, until the late-80's  Lived out there all Summer for 5 of those.  Nott many fishermen at all there, really.  Vaino Muotio trolled the lake around 4:30 am.  He got numerous 25 lb. class Northerns in the 60's.  Mrs. Nevala fished every evening in her canoe at the same weedbed near the mountain.  We'd troll for bass right at Sunrise.  Never ever saw another boat on the lake fishing.  Lost what certainly was an 8 lb. plus Smallmouth.  About 5 years after walleye were introduced, I found about 2 consistent spots, early 80's.  That lake had never seen a lot of pressure, pre-1990.  Just a few finnlanders.  I'm looking forward to running my sonar over the whole lake soon.  I don't beileve I've EVER drowned a worm more than 100 yards offshore.  There's a LOT of that lake I don't know...
