Guest adams Report post Posted December 29, 2008 In speaking with a friend who operates an outfitter service north of Wawa, they were saying that Land Use Permits had increased in cost from a yearly fee of $80 to somewhere in the area of $800. I'm no mathematician but I think thats in the area of a %1000 increase. Now I'm no politician, nor am I a marketing whiz but it makes no sense to come down on outfitters in a local economy that is seeing tourism become less of a lucrative business. In many ways it could drive some outfitters to consider not opening some camps (i.e. what if you operate camps on 15-20 different lakes?..... go from $1600 to $16000?) Please correct me if I'm wrong, I just don't see the justification in such a rash increase.
Guest BannedCore Report post Posted December 29, 2008 They also need to have surveys done and it also drives up the cost. I was told that this will be phased in over 5 years to help with the financial burden it poses. And yes it will hurt some outfitters fatally. There are animal lovers and catch and release people out there who love to see tourist outfitters go under.
