Guest fishing101 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 I was just wondering if Sunset Lake in Lismore Township and Penicin Lake up the Magone Rd were open in the winter time for speckle trout fishing?
Guest MNR Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Lakes that are part of the Ministry of Natural Resources’ (MNR) fish stocking program have a year-round season for the species being stocked. There are currently 110 lakes in Zone 6 that are being stocked with fish raised at the Dorion Fish Culture Station. Of the 110 lakes, 100 are stocked with -brook trout, 6 are stocked with rainbow trout, 2 with lake trout and 2 with splake (cross between brook trout and lake trout). For a complete listing of all the lakes that are being stocked, refer to the 2008-2009 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. Find the Fishing Zone where the lake is located and then look for Additional Fishing Opportunities”. or splake The list provides coordinates and/or township locations to avoid confusion between lakes with similar names. Crimestoppers produced an excellent resource book that provides information on how to get to these lakes plus depth contour maps. Generally, stocked lakes have a different catch and possession than lakes with naturally occurring populations. In Zone 6, brook trout catch and possession limits for stocked lakes are five for a sport fishing licence and two for a Conservation Licence. There are no size restrictions. brook trout where the lake is located Sunset Lake in Lismore Township is a stocked lake that is listed in the Additional Fishing Opportunities section for Fisheries Management Zone 6, (Page 29-30 of the Fishing Ontario 2008-2009 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary) andso it is therefore open all year for brook trout. The Penassen Lakes are natural brook trout lakes and therefore, are not listed in the Additional Fishing Opportunities section of Fisheries Management Zone 6. If a brook trout lake is not listed, you must follow the regular season (open season is from 4th Saturday in April to Labour Day) and catch and possession limits for Brook Trout in Zone 6. (S=5, C=2, not more than one can be greater than 30cm (11.8”).
