Growth on walleye

Recommended Posts

Wildcat

Hi, I caught this fish in the east dog bay river, I have seen many growths on fish but never like this, any ideas? Also do you have any recommendations on how to handle fish that are out of the ordinary, like bring it in or take a picture, etc. Thankspost-116-1246137242_thumb.jpgpost-116-1246137106_thumb.jpgpost-116-1246137472_thumb.jpg

From the photographs provided, it appears that it is lymphocystis which is a fairly common ailment found in walleye. If it is lymphocystis, the meat is perfectly safe to eat.

Of all the parasites found in the fresh water fish in Northwestern Ontario, the only one that could transfer to humans is the broad fish tapeworm (but only if eaten raw).

Here’s a good site for more information.
