Guest marz78 Report post Posted August 5, 2009 In Red Rock we are currently in the middle of a coyote problem, Wonderin what action can be taken to get rid of the problem? Were starting to see them with regularity as they go by my house between 10 and 1030 every night and last night they almost got another dog. As I heard the yelping it was only 100 yrds away.. and the dogs OK... 3-4 have been taken so far this year. Any Input would be greatly appreciated. Guest MNR Report post Posted August 14, 2009 MNR Answer – The following Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) website provides information on dealing with problem coyotes: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/FW/2C...age/271326.html The MNR does not condone the killing of wildlife where other options are available. The preferred option is always to remove whatever is attracting the animal to or near your property in the first place. Failure to remove the food, shelter or other feature that is attracting the animal to your property will only continue to attract new animals. The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act does have provisions to permit property owners on their own property to capture, kill or harass problem wildlife to prevent damage to their property. However, these provisions are very specific regarding who can capture, kill or harass the wildlife, how it must be done, and for which species. For example, deer, moose, caribou, elk or endangered species cannot be harassed, captured or killed in defence of property. For some other species, there are specific reporting requirements. The rules are a bit complicated so you should contact your local MNR office for further details regarding what is permitted in your situation, as well as contacting your local municipality regarding any local rules or bylaws that may be in place.
