Lac des Mille Lacs....Ice Status

Recommended Posts

:) 2009/12/07

Just got a call this morning regarding ice thickness at Lac...

Apparently the ice is about 4" thick and with this cold weather forecast for the next week it should help stiffen things up...

This was last year Dec 06/2008 - 11 to 12 inches of ice at eagle's nest before sandpoint.

I'm sure by this weekend there will be 6+ inches and people will start to venture out. However, I'll wait until the 18th or until there is a solid 11 or 12 inches before I will head out.

Yeah I'm sure people will be out at least to Birch Island next weekend. I towed ours out last year on the 6th too all the way to Coffin Island. Heres a couple pictures of my new shack.

Hi Lund...nice job, sweet shack.

Where are the holes? - can't see them in the pix.

If you get time, you should post some construction detail and in-progress shots. I'm sure there would be interest in the process. Also tell us about the guest house on the float. I'm guessing it's for the genni and crapper etc.

Anyway, nice work.

Sounds good Larry!

The shack is 10x16 and there is three holes inside (you can see the dowels sticking out of the walls with the reels below them). I don't really have too many pictures of it being built. The second shack is actually my dad's and it is half wood/generator shack and the other half is a small sauna. He had a 6x8 wood shed before that I have recently aquired :)

I hear Lundy built the whole shack with an air hammer and brass punch attachment. I hope you threw that 9lber back.

2009/12/11.....12:30....

I just talked to Gary at Sawmill Bay......6' of ice at 200 ft from shore.....very cold....

He says some are going to take a look at ice conditions this weekend.... most likely on quads....

Seems a little thin to be going out just yet...if it stays cold all week , hopefully we will have a foot by the 19'th

Gary said the ice is NFG! The thickness varies and he said it was unsafe. I think it will be ready this weekend with all this cold weather we're having.
