Guest drk Report post Posted January 21, 2010 What are the rules on fishing with Tip-Ups, (if any) and foremost why is it illegal to use a Hook-Set Tip-Up in the province of Ontario? ***Forget this question. I have found my answer*** Thanks.
Guest MNR Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Hook-Set Tip-Ups are covered in the definition of a “spring gaff” because they are designed to set the hook when a fish bites the bait. Hence they are prohibited from use in Ontario and may not be possessed in any waters or within 30m of any water’s edge. Tip ups that do not have spring loaded hooks and simply alert the angler that a fish may be present can be used. However you must keep in mind that you cannot be more than 60m away from your tip ups while fishing through the ice and you must maintain a clear and unobstructed view of your tip ups at all times. Also, you are permitted to use 2 lines/tip ups while angling through the ice.
