New Camping Restrictions?

Some Old Guy

I've heard the MNR is going to put in new camping restrictions on a few of my favourite lakes. Is this true?

Yes. Beginning this year (2010) three locations in the Thunder Bay District (Nelson Lake, Little Athelstane Lake and East Bay of Dog Lake (location known as the Pace Lake Landing) will have new camping restrictions in place. At these sites, camping units, (tents, trailers, vehicles, campers) must be attended and occupied for the purpose of overnight accommodation between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The 21 day rule will still apply to the length of time a unit can occupy the site. At Little Athelstane, the length of stay will remain at 10 days.

People camping in Nipigon District at Frazer Lake, Elizabeth Lake and Jessie Lake will see the same signage posted at the public access points on those lakes as well. Jessie Lake has 3 public access points posted with this new signage.

This measure is being put in place to allow access to more people who wish to use these sites. No longer will a person be able to park their camper in the prime location only to use it on weekends.
