Travis Schallock 28 Report post Posted September 9, 2010 Up here a couple of the WMU boundries are an abandoned rail line, and a river. My question is, if you have a tag for one area, can your stand be on the opposite side of the boundry overlooking say a swamp/creek on the side you have a tag for? In regular rifle season I would assume there wouldn't be a problem, however, one area opens up for rifle while the other is open for bow. In that case could you have a rifle while either navigating the border, or sitting on the riverbank watching the opposite side where rifle is open? What if you had a bear tag as well? Also is there an online map that shows exactly where the WMU border is? The book shows the river as the boundry, but I'm not sure which WMU the islands are located in. Guest MNR Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Technically, you can possess a rifle during archery season if you have a bear licence and the bear season is open. However, you will be leaving your true motive open to interpretation by enforcement officers. Since you are physically located in a WMU closed to gun hunting, and likely will be in possession of moose-hunting implements, it could be argued that you are actually hunting in that unit, even though you say you intend to shoot into the open WMU. Furthermore, if you shoot a moose so close to a boundary, it could run into the closed WMU, where you are not entitled to pursue it. A similar situation could occur where someone is hunting immediately adjacent to private land. Unless you have prior permission, you can’t enter onto private land to track or retrieve game. It is in your best interests to avoid any situations where your intent could be easily misinterpreted. Here is the web page for WMU maps: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/FW/2C...age/256933.html If you need further clarification, please contact the local MNR office for details.
