lots of ice in the bay. there are shacks for rent. the brochures are at d-r sports. this is a perch fishery. the fishing is very good with some fish over a pound and a half. jig and minnow are the ticket. the fishing is around nuttal island. my friend fished there and they took 120 perch that day.

Good access is by Pearl, Rd #5 to Johnsons Landing, you can also get here via Pass Lake but sometimes the road is not cleared that well so drive a little further to Pearl. I have attached a google map for you and link. You can also access from Hurkett. Hurkett just turn right when you see the sign of the Transcanada and follow. you will then make one right over the tracks and voila.

Just fished Black Bay and did okay for perch.

We tried Nuttal Island from a private access on

Superior Shores but there are dangerous ice

conditions. I almost fell through next to

a small pressure ridge. The ice collaped under

my feet and exposed open water (10 foot deep).

12 inches north east of Nuttal became 4 inches

on south east side of the island.. and current!

We rode on sleds close to the shore towards Hurkett

and fished near the shacks in deeper in the bay.

My partners were better at knowing what to feed

the perch than I was. But are the fish ever blonde!

Locals told us to watch out for open water and

thin/changing ice. I believe them. They offered

us a beer and a look at a map but we had to

decline because we ran out of time. Nice people,

though.

I drove to the Hurkett Cove on Saturday around noon with my two kids,First time there. From shore you can see an Ice hut...2 miles away you almost need

binoculas to see that far,So we took our snowmachine out on the lake there are a few places where the ice has pushed up 1 -2 feet but the lake looked ok.

It was a little windy but with the portable ice shelter it helped out stay out of the wind. We only fished for about an hour or two in about 20 feet of water, no fish. By that time my kids wanted to go home .So we started to pack up and realized more people were comming out. I didn't want to push my luck by staying longer or my kids wouldn't want to come with me anymore. Looks like fishing seems better in the late pm or evening?

But we just had fun going for a ride out of town.

Tim Hortons here we come! maybe better luck next time.
