Hey I am a newbie to rainbow fishing and looking to try it out this season. I know the typical egg sacks used for fishing but has anyone had luck with other tackle or bait set ups ? If so what have you used ? Also what and where would you recommend fishing on rivers slow swirling pools or in the main flow of the river ? Let me know any of your tips and tricks much appreciated !

I will be in Thunder Bay for a meeting in a couple weeks. I was thinking about staying the weekend and fishing in the stocked trout lakes in the area. Does anyone have experience with these lakes? Most have speckled trout, some have splake. Is access usually fairly simple, do they generally have spots to fish from shore? Just wondering if it would be worth the effort. Thanks.

I grew up in Thunder Bay and loved fishing. I havent lived there for 25 years. I read the boards for interest and to live vicariously. One of my favourite spots growing up was to portage into Nolan Lake and then into McIntosh Lake near Dorian. The lakes were so beautiful. We used to fish when ice fishing was allowed and I think the lakes were accessed a fair bit then by snowmobile. I wonder if people still go there and what the fishing is like nowadays. I dream of going back there some day. It would be a trip down memory lane.
